Do you offer in-home instruction? Yes. This option is best for people who homeschool their children and are looking for ways to offer more language acquistion for their children. How far in advance should I register for classes? It is best to contact me roughly 2 weeks prior to starting classes. This allows me the necessary time to create an appropriate curricula based upon your goals. Is it worth it to take your classes if I already know sign language? It depends. If you already know some basic sign and want to brush up and learn some new signs then I would say that Creative Hands would be a great option for you. If you are more skilled and are considering an advanced ASL course, you may want to check out your local college. What good books and videos are available for learning ASL? There are so many it would take hours to list them all. We have listed the ones we feel are the most useful in our SHOP. You might also consider your local library for good lessons free of charge. I've decided to use ASL. Do I have to take classes and learn the whole language? No. Certainly there can be specific things you would like to learn without learning others and for people who don't have small children and just want to learn for other reasons you can custom-tailor your lessons to suit your needs. If you do choose to use ASL, remember that there can be regional differences in the signs, even in the same country. And each country has its own sign language, just as many have their own spoken language. RSL (Russian Sign Language) is quite a bit different from ASL, so don't expect to visit Russia and have a conversation with a local deaf person!
